I came out of the water four minutes ahead of last year. I then finished the bike five minutes faster than last year. And I didn't get that nasty four minute penalty. So, going out onto the run I had a thirteen minute handicap against last year's time. But on the run I got passed more than the salt at Thanksgiving dinner. I finished the race in 5hr16min, sixteen minutes slower than last year. And if you don't count the b.s. penalty that really didn't give me an advantage last year I finished twenty minutes slower. Suck. That extra eight pounds on my belly hurts. I didn't stop on the run at all, despite wanting to vomit before curling up to die. Massive mental defecits by the end of the race. So much salt on me that people stopped eating pizza to note my white crispy coating. My personality was as dull as the paint job on a Bondo'd 1983 Pinto so I ditched the social scene and curled up in some shade on the boardwalk, half-vomiting everything I drank.
Now, the really great news is that my tri peeps rocked! I passed Dana on the bike like she was a hot potato but she fought back and passed me ten minutes later. Going into transition at the same time, she passed me on the run at mile eight or so and then ran it out to the end... awesome Dana. Kelly looked strong at mile six and when I did some timing math it looked like she'd break her sub-six goal or come really close. Patrick Dowd beat his evil rival by over a minute with a sub-five time... he passed me like a wet fart at about mile nine. Keith looked strong as always on his run. Kurt went sub-six with a non-stop run and fuel left in the tank at the end. Dane was strong on the run and had broken into the age groups ahead of him like they were New Orleans convenience stores after Katrina. Brett Reagan, the 35-40 age group super star that I stalk, had a great race... I got to ride next to him for .2 minutes before he dropped me like a cheerleader's panties on prom night. Daniel Moss, All3Sports superstar pro triathlete, took second overall... as in overall everybody only one person beat him he's got big hairy balls overall.
Before the race I got another joereger.com intro! Amy recognized me and said hi! Too cool! Hi Amy! Shoot me an email!
More details later on. Thanks everybody for the support and tri love. Sorry to abandon you after the race. I was simply not all there in the head. In fact, I'm still not all there. |
