Ice Storm? Not So Much.
The stage was set for a fierce weather
confrontation. Cold air from the north
meets wet rain from the south.
Atlanta freaked. Ice storm. Winter
weather advisory. The talk began on
Tuesday predicting a Wednesday of ice pain.
The same thing happened unexpecedly a few
years ago. Rain plus cold iced the city
and knocked out power lines, trees, etc.
Nobody caught it last time.
They wouldn't be left out in the cold this
time.
Schools shut down. News reporters
scurried. Weather reporters waffled.
Then Wednesday came. The temperature
dropped. We left BrightLane early. We
prepared for the ice storm.
5:00PM: Cold but no precipitation.
7:00PM: Nothing.
9:00PM: A little bit of drizzle.
11:00PM: A little more rain but nothing
freezing.
5:00AM: The dreaded morning. Ice
expected. And... nothing. Just a little
damp.
6:30AM: At work again without incident.
Oh well. I do love a good ice storm and
wish that this one had produced. Maybe
later in the winter season we'll get hit
with a whopper.
