I've been waiting to get a digital SLR camera for a long time. First I wasn't sure which model I wanted. Then I knew that I wanted the Canon D60. Then they discontinued it. Then they announced the 10D. Then they made everybody wait for it. Then I preordered... with three places... hoping that all three cameras didn't ship at once. Then they didn't get cameras.
After reading reports online that some camera shops had them in stock I made my move. I wrote down twenty phone numbers for Atlanta camera shops. I started calling at 8:45AM, hoping to catch shop owners as they opened.
No luck. I left a lot of messages.
So I tried again around 9:45AM. I talked to about ten people but none had the camera. I put myself on the list at three places. At this point I'm on the list at six places and three have my credit card information.
On a whim I decide to call a shop in Savannah. They had just gotten the camera that morning from Canon.
Good luck.
And a good excuse for Heather and I to road trip to Savannah. We stopped by the car dealership for some oil (I had been running low) and then we were off.
Four hours later I picked up the camera and we headed back.
We had fun. Talked. Laughed. Nice to get away from everything and hang out together.
The camera itself rocks. It has six megapixels but the best thing about it is that it accepts traditional SLR lenses. The lens is what collects the light and makes for great photos.
Immediately I realized that I was in over my head. It doesn't take nice pictures out of the box. It makes you work for them. Of 1100 pictures on the first day about 10 were good. The next day I got much better.
I've had to learn about ISO, shutter speed and aperture. Fun.
