Fairly big changes in my life lately. No longer with BrightLane. Out starting my own company Qlogger (which powers this site). I'm going to rename it reger.com to avoid any potential conflict with blogger.com (recently acquired by Google). Talked to the founders and they're not concerned about it but I'd rather be a little more respectful of their name.
Interestingly, just heard tonight from my father that somebody in texas has essentially stolen the name of our technology company frogfire Digital. They're calling themselves frogfire Technologies. We started ours about seven years ago. They started theirs in late 03. Too funny... assclowns.
I'm excited and scared about my new dream-chasing. I believe in the vision of my company more than anything I've seen in business. It's a concept that should change the world. I believe in my own ability to build a team that can bring this vision to the world. I've been building the concept for over five years and have always been thinking about just going for it. Now I'm out there... going for it.
Burning through cash like a mofo. In about ten months or less I'll have spent what I've got. It bears down on me from time to time. But I can't imaging not investing in my dream company. Can't imagine not following my dream. Can't imagine letting material things like cars and houses get in the way of real fulfillment.
Like any dream I acknowledge the high level of risk involved. The vision is correct but implementations are notoriously messy. I'm taking it slowly.
I'm finishing the technology. In the coming weeks I'll relaunch the site. It's now all written in Java running on top of open source MySql and Tomcat. And a whole slew of new features. And a whole lot of new logs. Should have something like 50 activity-specific web logs shortly. Excited about this.
After that I'll get the business plan materials and sales materials together and I'll start hitting the street. Somewhere around the first week of March. Urgency is high. Time to act. Time to get it done.
In my personal life I'm having a blast with my wonderful fiancee Heather. Realized not to long ago that I don't know how to spell fiancee. We're spending a lot of time together. Enjoying each other's company.
I get up early, do my situps, take a shower, have breakfast with or just chat with Heather (very important) and then sit on the computer all day. Heather goes to work. I code. Like a madman. Then I head to the gym. Weights for an hour. Run for an hour. Then Heather and I take a spinning class for an hour. After that we cook dinner together and watch some tv or read. The quality time is great.
I've signed up for an Ironman Triathlon in November 04. The Ironman Florida. 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. Looking forward to this. I've got a stiff nine months of training ahead. And then one amazing day of athletic output. I wanted to do an Ironman in college but never got around to it. I remember telling my father that I wanted to do one by the time I graduated. I always felt this was a massive failure on my part. In one way I want to make up for that failure. And I love training with Heather and Rusty. And I love meeting people at the gym. Great community of athletes.
Overall life has been fulfilling lately. I've loved the quality time with Heather. I've loved the support of friends and family.
But, probably as it should be, there's a background of urgency. I'm anxious to get the technology piece out of the way and start making the business side happen. But I can't jump the gun. Gotta hang in there with the tech for a while.
Been eating fairly well lately. Tried to drop a few pounds by starving myself. Didn't have enough energy for workouts and hurt myself. Now I'm just healthier with my food and longer with my workouts. Seems to be working. Feel good but still want to drop some more weight for some running soon.
Got an olympic distance triathlon in April. 1 mile swim, 28 mile bike and 6.2 mile run. Looking forward to it.
So that's the tip of the iceberg. Hoping to update the site more with real life stuff in addition to the fitness stuff.
