New Polar S625X Heart Rate Monitor Coming Soon

Polar has created a href='http://www.polar.fi/polar/channels/eng/segments/products/S625X.html'>new heart
rate monitor
called the S625X.

This thing looks bad ass and I want one as soon as they're available... likely
May/June 2004.

I have the S720i now, which rocks. But for a triathlete it has one massive flaw... it
doesn't track run speed or distance.

But the S625X does. Oh man... for a geek like me this will be heaven. I'll have swim
heart rate... bike speed, distance, cadence and altitude... run speed, distance and
altitude. This is huge.

Today I use my Nike SDM Triax to track run distance. As soon as the S625X comes out
I'll be ditching it in favor of Polar's device.

It also has the new wearable sensor thing that, in theory, is less uncomfortable to
wear... although to be honest I've never noticed that I'm wearing my current monitor.

This thing looks hot! Can't wait to get it.

Some people claim that it's not as accurate as the GPS-enabled devices from Timex and Garmin. I'm not convinced. I bid on a DARPA project dealing with geolocation issues and GPS. GPS is difficult to do in cities and under lots of trees. I've been using my SDM Triax for years now and it's very accurate. I take it to the track and out of the box it's within a few feet of perfect on a mile run.
