What's Joe Up To?
Here it is... your Joe's-been-too-lazy-to-blog-what's-Joe-up-to entry.... yes, I know you didn't ask for it.
I've been busy. Trying to pay the bills by renting out my geek skills. Been very busy. Also trying to improve the technology in major ways. It's exciting because some pieces of my vision from six years ago are finally being realized. Six years! Maybe even seven! Man, how time flies. If I had known it would take this long I would have never started. It's fulfilling, but the hours are long.
Knee annoying me. Ride over the weekend hurt my sense that I was getting over the injuries. I thought I had given up the ghost of last year's fitness but some of the tug is still there. I need to start with the basics again. But it's tough when my knees won't support me. More stretching required. According to everything I read it's important that I build my fitness in the correct order. Strength and aerobic first... anaerobic later. It's just so tempting to go anaerobic on workouts. Have to hold back.
Pregnancy is going great. Not that I have much to to. Heather's in a zone where she's learned to deal with the difficulties well, which lulls us into a sense of normalcy. We don't even acknowledge the coming (beautiful) storm that is a baby.
I get frustrated with my ability to communicate my thoughts on life. I explain bits and pieces on the blog from time to time but I worry that taken as a single piece each sounds childish. We do have a plan. And I believe that the medium of blogging paints that vision over time with small brush strokes. But sometimes it's tough realizing that there's an unfinished masterpiece out there... like our vision on how to raise a kid. We've shared pieces, but I fear that those pieces alone make us look naive and foolish. Maybe we are, but we feel like we've got a good grasp on what needs to be done.
So that just about covers it. I still wake up, work, work, work, then workout and spend time with heather before working more at night. Still driven by the vision from six or more years ago... still coming up short on the features. But I'll get there. Eventually.
Advanced search... the ability to create searches into data fields and save them, is a big step in the right direction. I still need to link this into charts, social networking and calendars. Some day. Currently I'm working on a log field configuration engine. Seeing good progress today and hoping for more tomorrow.
And I've still wanted to get to Dom's posts about the CPI. In the time it's taken to write this I could have read and responded. Don's also been posting awesome ideas for the technology that i need to get to. I'll get to them. I promise.
So that's the what's-Joe-been-up-to-post. Sorry I haven't gotten to more regular blogging.
