AMWoke up to Pupper nudges. I worked on the computer a bit. Last night I started working with Hibernate, a Java object persistence engine with a lot of promise. Got the basic config going last night and finished the Hello.world demo this morning... but it bombed.

So I went to the supermarket to buy some 40% reduced fat bacon and Balance Bars. Got home and made some bacon and scrambled Egg Beaters. Oooh, and soy milk.

Hopped back onto the 'puter and got the Hibernate demo working. Now I need to pick a single entity in the system to model and apply the technology to. I'm going to give it a trial basis for a while... not wanting to rewrite vast sections of the system without knowing more about the Hibernate framework.

Heather and I are going to head to the DeKalb courthouse to pull the deed on our house. It looks like there's some other dude named on the deed. Odd. Not the people before us or anybody we've ever heard of. Luckily, my wife's a real estate agent! Bonus!

And I'm going to get a new mouse today. It's time to move on from optical. I'm going to try out the Logitech MX1000 wireless laser mouse. All the reviews online point to a great product... even the blog reviews by average Joes like me. We'll see what all the hype is about. My mouse has been sluggish and annoying for a few months now. With my hand being on it for a reasonably large percentage of my life, it's probably worth investing in a little. Similar logic to investing in a nice bed... or in our case futons... they feel better on my back.

It's sunny and windy out today. I'd like to fly a kite, but I doubt I'll get to it. Probably gonna screw around on the computer with Hibernate most of the day. I'd like to get a swim in today. Probably won't. We'll see.

And I'm looking forward to spending some QT with the Terpa. Onward Saturday.

Why do my entries sometimes feel like third grade show and tells?

Update 5:14PM: Good errand-running with Heather. I only threw one temper tantrum when the number of errands increased from two to five. The DeKalb Courthouse was closed so we couldn't find our deed. We stopped by a house in Decatur that Heather's father owns... it was locked up. Heather wanted to get a table out of it. We went to the Perimeter Mall and went to Mimi Maternity where we found a shirt Heather's wanted for a while. Very cool shirt and I'm getting it for her for her birthday. Size M fits but it was ripped there so I'll order it. Swung by Arby's on the way home for Heather. I abstained. Got home and watched the Tech game. They beat UNC and moved to the finals of the ACC tourney. Yeah! Ate some Hershey's Kisses... chocolate tastes good lately. Now working.

Got Hibernate working well. Done some object persisting. Done some querying. Not bad. Thing is, I do a lot of my own abstracting like this anyway. Not that what I do is anywhere near what Hibernate is, but when it comes to the basics it isn't of enough value yet for me. So I need to dig into the advanced stuff to figure out where the cost of rebuilding/rearchitecting is worth it. I have no doubt that it is, but I do worry that I won't have the time to find value. Overall nice to know that this capability is there for me though. I'll leave the jars in the project for a while and as I get into some new objects I'll consider Hibernate... but then wrap it with my own buffer abstraction.

The new laser mouse: different. Hoping to do a full review soon. Right now I'm blinded by the fact that it's different. Hands take up a massive portion of the somatosensory cortex so when you change the way that the hand interacts with the world you can expect to feel big differences. Need some time to adjust. More later.
