It's a little after one in the morning. I went into one of those zones again. At about 4:00PM I ate something and then didn't leave the computer until now. I remember Heather calling at 6-something. And she got home around 8ish. Then at 9:14PM I remember thinking that I was just about done for the day. About 30 minutes ago I finally decided that I liked what I had and started the build process. The deployment is uploading right now.
I redid the reger.com homepage. Trying to meld the concept of blogging for business and blogging for pleasure. Trying to start the long process of defining this term dataBlogging. Cleaned up some font sizes and rough images here and there. Got rid of that tool in the middle of the page. People respond more to images of women. Men because they have penises. Women because they're caddy. Ha, kidding. I don't know why women respond to other women, but I've read that they do. I hereby officially dedicate a portion of my life to doing research on the topic via the internet... late at night... alone... in the basement.
I also built and launched a new versionInfo infrastructure. The idea is that I needed to have a more structured way of telling users what is changing on the site. Whenever I change something I get a few flaming emails cursing me for moving stuff around. On the homepage and on every user's admin page is now a version number. They can click to see all past version numbers and what changed in them. A good way to keep things in order. Not very complex, but that's the point.
And a number of bug fixes. For example, the time periods were all right-aligned for a few days. Crappy. And my numero uno client came up with a big baddie bug so I got that patched and downloadable as quickly as I could.
The morning found me doing optimizations. Very happy with the way those worked out. I'm amazed at how much performance I gained with a little reorganizing and smart processing. Graphs are popping now. And they work with advanced search better than before. Less memory. Less CPU. Nice. Since launching the new chart/advanced search feature I've found the CPU pinned on the server from time to time. And an increase in memory used. On one typical graph I took the time to generate from 18,176 ms to 2,183 ms. Not bad at all. Still slower than I'd like, but not off the charts any more.
So far today I've eaten about 1500 calories. I didn't workout so this number is about right. I'm hungry. Maybe a quick snack before bed. And a lot of water. I woke up this morning with a massive headache and had to take some ibuprofen to get over it. More water would have helped. Or maybe not... I think these headaches may be caused by air pressure as weather fronts move through the area.
Spent some time instant messenging my sister. She's putting together some content for the new /biz/ section on reger.com. Which is great because content creation is very hard.
I was a bad husband this evening. On the computer the whole time, head down, cursing up the occassional storm. Heather came home and slept for about two hours. Now she's up reading a magazine that Keith gave her. Pupper's curled at her feet.
Sorry for not being around tonight Terpa.
Update: So now it's past 1:30 in the morning. The damn build F'd itself. Actually, it's nothing on my side... it's this damn software I use to upload. CuteFtp. Crap. I used to use WsFtp, but lost it on the last system rebuild. For some reason CuteFtp is crossing files. So I launch the RegerComDistributable.WAR when I should be launching JoeregerComFile.WAR... they're both named ROOT.WAR but appear in different directories... oh, #~{&! me... like anybody gives a #~{&! about my file naming problems. I'm going to bed.
