Big Thanks to the GPs and Uncle Robert
Wow. I'm humbled. The grandparents (Ava's GPs, that is) and extended family are helping Heather and I out in so many ways as I embark on another entreprenurial journey. Over the course of two years I've steadily burned through cash and assets from previous entreprenurialism as I get Reger.com rolling. It's kind of like a gambling addiction, no? All in.
Now we find ourselves struggling and both sides of the family have been putting forth support in various forms. Sometimes cash. Sometimes they sneak new things into the house or, in today's case, buy stuff for the minivan like tires, windows and bumpers. They're ready to babysit whenever Heather and I need a sleep. Believe me, this is noted and appreciated.
Uncle Robert has put $50K into Reger.com to bridge the time until we get some real funding. It's a big help. Of course, I'm not paying myself anything. That money is too valuable and needs to be treated as a force multiplier to find other money... i.e. sales. I'm working to find the best strategy to spend and earn right now. But again, it's not about the money... it's about the familial support. We're awash in support from all directions.
They don't prod or judge. They just support.
It feels great to be part of the fam and I truly appreciate the support. And I appreciate the trust... both sides, not only my GP side, trust that my mad entreprenurial skills will shine through and eventually bring in some dough. I can't wait to be able to repay everybody, not only financially but in life. I have to admit, I hate being the charity case. It drives me nuts but also motivates me to get things moving forward... even faster than before... so that I'm not the charity case.
I don't take the support for granted.
Families are incredibly important. I want to be able to provide the same type of support for others that they're providing for me right now. There will come a point where they have an intervention with me about my entrepreneuring problem. It's a race... to make Reger.com make money before that intervention. But the real lesson has little to do with money... it has to do with supporting family when you can.
We're doing a lot to cut back on spending, even though we still live an incredibly extravagant lifestyle in a big house with two cars and a can opener.
And we're also hedging our bets against the technology world of Reger.com. Heather and I are working on a couple of real estate angles. I work on it through nights and weekends. Heather works on it a lot more. We've had this dual strategy since I left BrightLane. One of these days one side of the strategy will pan out.
Some may say this post hurts my negotiating position with venture capitalists or other funders. It doesn't. We'll live under a bridge abutment before taking a deal that doesn't work. GPs have basements, you know. With six years invested in Reger.com we don't mind making some lifestyle adjustments to make it happen. Sorry funders. Focus on the value and potential, not on the owner's financial situation.
And thanks again to the life rafts... I mean family members! You guys are the greatest family a kid could have! Ava, re-read this many times and realize the importance of it... when you learn to read, of course... you're still learning to use your hands right now.
