Heading up to Brasstown Valley to Celebrate One Year Wedding Anniversary

Ok, so our actual anniversary was about two weeks ago. But we couldn't get reservations at the place we got married. So we're doing it this weekend. Heather, Robin, Ava and I are heading up in the next few hours to spend a weekend celebrating. Heather and Robin are planning on eating a lot each evening and relaxing by the pool each day. I'll be riding the mountains each morning. Instead of eating a whole day I'm planning on doing shorter four hour rides and a little run each day. I'll get up at 6AM and hopefully be back by the time Heather realizes I'm gone. Onward!

Update 7:01PM: I'm up in Young Harris at the Brasstown Valley Resort. I left the house at 3:30 and just made it. Friday traffic on top of an alread-long drive. But I'm here. Heather, Robin and Ava are about an hour behind me.

I'm typing this on my notebook computer which is connected to the internet through my Treo 650 phone. It's actually faster than dialup modem connections. Fairly pleased with it. With this type of connectivity I need to find some way to make a desk happen in the minivan... one where I could actually do ten hours of work a day. Then I'll drive cross country a little at a time. Ah, dreams. Some day.

The weather up here is nice. A little cooler than it is in Atlanta. Something like 75 degrees and clear.

We have dinner reservations at 8:00PM. I didn't bring any pants... I had forgotten that they generally host formal things here... like, oh, I don't know... weddings.

Tonight I'm planning on generating some maps for my ride tomorrow. Up early... maybe even 5AM. I'd like to do Brasstown Bald again and the rest of the backside three gap. Hopefully no bonking this year. Although even if I did it wouldn't matter... it's not like I've got a wedding to make it to!

Looking forward to seeing Ava. Haven't seen her in a couple days. Heather took her out to Villa Rica. Then Heather started talking about a sore throat which I wanted nothing to do with. So I haven't seen the little bug in a few days.

I listened to a few more hours of the book SnowCrash on the way up. Still very interesting.

And I brought a couple geeky books up for the weekend. One on Xforms. And one on XSLT.

Over and out.

Update 10:14PM: Just got back from dinner. I held Ava for the first hour and a half or so to let Robin and Heather have a nice dinner together. I enjoyed walking little Avers all around the place. She was a perfectly good little bug. When I handed her off to Frec she had a ten minute screaming fit, but Heather and I couldn't hear her. Dinner was good. On the way back to the room Robin was carrying Ava and Heather was walking beside her. An 80 year old man asked if Heather was the grandmother.

It's cold out. I didn't bring the first piece of long sleeve clothing. I was cold at dinner and now I'm still cold. It's only going to get colder over night. I'm gonna freeze tomorrow morning. Sunrise at 7:30AM. I may shoot for wheels down at 8:30 or so to let some heat build up. We'll see. Maybe four layers of t-shirts. We'll see.

I'll be doing the back side three gap. Printed the maps out before dinner. Looking forward to a fun ride.
