I actually bought an XV6700 today. It's got a big screen and a big keyboard. I got it home and it was terribly difficult to use. Not just its fault... I'm used to the Palm.
So I returned it and got the Treo 700w. Why? Biggest reason is the EVDO data link which is a lot faster... I've clocked it at ~400Kbps. So streaming podcasts is possible... and being in the blog space i've got to be up to speed on it.
It's Windows Mobile 5.0 running the show. Not bad so far. We'll see.
Update: Lots 'o' suckage, but still not enough to wipe out the gain in network speed.
1) Connecting to my Comcast email server seems to take forever. Could be a setting on my side.
2) An assinine little "Connecting..." bubble pops up whenever the phone is trying to connect to EVDO.
3) Lots more clicks required to do just about everything. Overall usability isn't nearly as nice as the 650.
4) No one-click email or calendar.
5) Speed, or lack of. This thing seems to lock up a good bit more. A lot like early windows versions.
I'll keep collecting suckage as I find it. This is fairly typical for a new product like this. This is the first palm device running windows. New partnership. New people involved. No prior customer usability feedback. It's gonna take a little while. The network speed is nice. And it seems that there's a larger collection of software available.
Update: Skype running on the pocket pc is amazing. I can have a conversation across EVDO as if I was there. Incredible. Just incredible.
Update: About a month has gone by. Windows Mobile sucks goat balls. I hate it and can't wait to get fast EVDO and Palm OS from the upcoming 700p.
