Wednesday, May 9, 2007: Sick, Sick, Sick
07:38:31 AM: Definitely feel worse this morning. Ear blocked. Throat in a lot of pain. Nose running. Oh well. That's how it goes.
08:03:21 AM: Going through the classic stages of grief. Yesterday afternoon I was in denial, acting like that scratch in my throat was nothing and hoping it would go away. Last night I was angry. This morning I'm negotiating. ("Maybe I won't be 100% but what would a 90% finishing time look like?") On the drive down I'll probably be depressed and then by race day I'll accept that I'm not going to have a great day. Rather interesting to see this process happening in real-time.
08:38:38 AM: Terp & Aves leave for Florida today. Dominic's in town and we had planned on getting together but I'm not sure I want give him this cold/flu.
10:03:43 AM: And click... the stopwatch ends at... about an hour. Dana sent me an anti-sniveling email right on schedule. Too funny. Thanks Dana... I'll stay positive!
10:56:24 AM: Danielle and Blair each sent best wishes for me to beat the evil germ. Blair's coming back to cycling after a big accident. Danielle's coming back to it after being hit last year during IM Fla week. They both know recovery and overcoming diverse conditions so their input is very much appreciated!
10:58:02 AM: I adjusted the antibiotics protocol that the doc put me on. I did the two pills last night. Then I'm supposed to do one per day for the next four days. But I don't think I need to take one on Saturday so I'll double-up today... one in the morning and one at night... in hopes of hitting the evil germs hard.
11:16:17 AM: Mark (of Carol and Mark fame) says his strep test came back positive. My father's headed to the doc today. It'll be interesting to see what his test says. Sr and I don't live with Carol, who tested positive. Mark does, and tested positive. It's like our own small version of the movie Outbreak! Wahoo!
08:41:43 PM:
Nat dropped a note:
Okay you totally sound like what I had last week (my youngest had strep but noone else). Get some steroid nasal spray--flonase or what not. Is the only that really helped me. I didn't have any antibiotics--I assumed allergies or virus but it took me over week to get better. Not great news, I know, but I still ran and worked out everyday-- only felt like 60-70% though. You are younger and stronger than me. Lots of fluids and rest and you should be fine. Good luck! Hope you knock it out.
I've been following her progress with the cold/flu and have been encouraged that she was able to run throughout and is finally feeling better. Thanks for the encouragement Nat!
