Birthday Bash for John
In honor of John Cookerly's birthday, about
twenty fine folks from throughout Atlanta
converged on The Earl in southeast Atlanta.
John is my super-sweetheart's sister's
husband, my friend and a great all-around
guy. I've known John for about six years
now. We've seen each other through happy,
sad and drunken times. John goes by the
alias Juan Baldhead at times.
Robin, John's wife, my friend and Heather's
sister, put the whole thing together. I met
many great new people and, as always, walked
away with more insight into the world around
me. I promise to continue to incorrectly
apply that insight to the world in my
ongoing attempt to confuse, amaze and
befuddle.
Our goal was to get John blitzed, but Robin
was on the lookout for this. After John's
third glass of wine and fourth shot (who's
counting?) John was officially shut down.
He was very tame on this particular evening,
just taking in his friends and enjoying his
day. Thankfully he did not don the birthday
suit.
After the group split up at 11:30 I
attempted to grow my coalition-building
skills to put together an expedition to
Waffle House. The coalition started out
strong as three cars caravanned from The
Earl towards Waffle House. I rode with
Heather and Robin drove my car. Halfway
through the drive it all fell apart as Robin
flashed her lights and headed for home.
Which left two cars. As we arrived the
woman in the other car bailed on us. So I
took Heather on a romantic dinner date to
the Waffle House.
At the Waffle House I saw a gentleman named
Chaz Lee who used to work at frogfire. I
only saw him as he was leaving and didn't
get a chance to say hello. It could have
been his brother however. Chaz, if you're
out there, email me... I lost your address.
Heather and I made it home after a
fulfilling Awful Waffle experience.
Thanks to Robin, John and everybody who made
it out to celebrate John's birthday!
