Holy Crap, I Made Money On Stocks

I suck at stocks. I really suck. I bought
DCLK at 125.... they're now at 5. I bought
BSTI at 1.5... they're now at .08. I
bought Mindspring, watched them grow like
mofos and then held them while they slid
into never-never land.

I don't dabble much in stocks because I
don't pay enough attention. I always buy
them and then forget them, learning later
that my investment is crap when I see them
on my brokerage account statement.

I have never, ever made a penny on stocks.
To be fair, I own TSTF stock and have sold
for sweet profit but that was the
result of a merger. It doesn't really
count. It wasn't the result
of scoping out a stock, buying it and then
selling it for more than I paid for it. I
wasn't stalking a tiger on the hot plains
of Africa, I was breeding a tiger in
captivity. No adrenaline rush.

When the S&P dropped precipitously a few
weeks ago I figured "why the hell not" and
dumped some bucks into it. I bought at
81.92, watched it climb to around 90 and
then sold at 85.03. I made around $500!
Spank dabby doodle!

Yeah, I could have been smarter and sold at
90. Yeah, I can't retire on my $500. But
that's not really the point here. The
point is this: I actually made money on the
exchange of securities.

Alright, go ahead and laugh. Sure,
fourteen year olds are old pros at it by
now. Sure, your grandmother is a day
trader. Sure, high school class projects
have made more. Well, I've just never
gotten into
it, but now I think that there may be a
future in this securities thing.

Still, I do favor creating the companies
with value that the securities represent.
Everything else feels like gambling.

And today I got a little trickle of coin
from the slot machine.
