I F'd Myself Via Incorrect Email Config
I am truly sorry if you haven't heard from
me via email since the end of last month.
I had my email misconfigured and as a
result about 300 messages that I thought I
sent in the last 24 days were lost.
When I was in Indianapolis Mindspring
wouldn't forward mail from the SMTP server
on my local machine. So I added
mail.mindspring.com as a SmartHost and it
allowed me to send mail.
All was good until I forgot to remove that
setting upon return to more sane IP
networks. When I did my email was going
out of my local machine, hitting the
SmartHost where it was denied because I was
no longer on MindSpring's dialup, and then
coming back to my machine.
Traditionally my machine would have alerted
me to the error and all would have been
peachy. But I had the alert email
configured incorrectly so I didn't hear
anything about it. The email just went
silently to the BadMail directory.
I'm a moron.
So, sorry for not sending email. I assure
you that I do still reply, as I always
have, to all email sent to me.
Now I have to search through my sent folder
and figure out what the damage was. In at
least one email I know I was dealing with
my mortgage banker, wondering why he
wouldn't reply.
My father was the most helpful in
identifying the problem. We would talk and
I'd tell him that I sent something. He'd
say that he didn't get it. After a few
weeks I actually checked my side of the
equation.
Oops.
