Bush Pre-Building War Coalition
"PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Nov. 20 (UPI) --
On the eve of the NATO summit, President
George W. Bush called Wednesday for
a "coalition of the willing," to help the
United States disarm Iraq, should world
pressure fail to persuade Saddam Hussein to
give up the weapons voluntarily."
I see what President Bush is doing. He
wants to keep the pressure up on Iraq. He
wants to let them know that war is going to
happen if they screw up.
And he wants to start building his
coalition so that when/if they do screw up
he will have his ducks in a row to kick
some serious ass without red tape.
Good plan, but I question the public nature
of it. Trust me, I love what he's doing...
proper prior planning prevents piss poor
performance. And when American lives are
at stake I want all the planning we can get.
And even though he is doing nothing more
than being prepared, the world is
percieving it as being overly-aggressive.
Not that I care what the world thinks when
it comes to our safety. I just worry that
their perception now may affect the
tactical effectiveness of a coalition down
the road.
Maybe he can try to build the coalition
privately with the world's leaders. Doing
that he may keep more of the world
population on his side and make it easier
for the world's leaders to support the war
effort.
The world wants to see events unfold
linearly but President Bush has to plan for
two outcomes. He's doing the right
thing... I'm just a little worried about
the method that he's doing it. I do like
seeing him kick ass though. Makes me feel
good that somebody's looking out for
American interests.
People compare Bush's aggressiveness with
that of the terrorists. This is a bad
comparison. Bush wakes up and says "To
make the world a better place I need to
protect Americans which means that I have
to contain those that threaten us."
The terrorists wake up at age seven and
say "To make the world a better place I
need to kill Americans."
Bush is being aggresively defensive. There
is emminent threat to our nation from Iraq
and those that Iraq supports. In the new
world of asymmetric warfare we have to
predict and act.
Go get some, Bush!
