Another 50 Miler on Silver Comet Bike Path
What a fun ride. After last week's ride I knew that I could
do
this so there was little tentativeness. In fact, I trimmed
over 20
minutes from last week's time.
By the halfway point I was feeling great. Then at about the
2/3
point a guy started drafting off of me. I'd never had this
happen
and it was quite interesting. I was setting the pace. I was
suddenly conscious of trying to go faster. While my pulse
throughout the ride had been between 130 and 145, I started
floating between 150-160. I bumped my cadence from about 65-
75 to
75-85.
I honestly was amazed that I had it in me. I was going a lot
faster than I did on the first half of the ride and my pulse
was
still manageable. WoW!
I went to Galyans last night to get some parts so that my
Polar
s720i worked today. It tracks my heard rate, my speed, the
altitude and the cadence (how quickly I spin the pedals). I
couldn't get it working last night but I got up at 6:00 and
got it
working this morning. It put me late to the ride, but I made
it
and I was wired.
The heart rate monitor will definitely help my training.
It's nice
to know when I'm not pushing it. The cadence is a little
less
helpful than I had expected. I suppose that the cadence is a
little more obvious to me given that I can experience it.
Pulse
strain is a little more subtle and can creep up on you if you
let
it.
I got caught up in a pack of cyclists in the last few miles.
That
was fun. But I decided to drop them after a couple miles...
too
much work worrying about who not to hit.
Great ride. I feel great. My knee isn't hurting.
Wahoo!
