30 Min Swim, 1hr30Min Bike with Lots of Excuses

Got to the gym this morning and started swimming at 8:30AM. I planned on doing a 1 hour swim but I was abruptly kicked out of the pool after 30 minutes by the water aerobics posse.

And I also planned on doing the full 112 mile ride on the Silver Comet but I didn't. Lots of excuses, but only one matters:

1) This is the only real excuse for not completing. My right knee hurt a bit. Not a massive pain but acute enough to make its presence known. With IM in a few weeks I can't afford an injury so I backed off. It's hard to not achieve a key workout like this, but I know that backing off was the right thing to do. I put in a lot of running volume this week and any time you increase volume you risk injury.

2) Headache last night. Had to take some motrin. Woke up without a headache but didn't feel 100%.

3) Nutrition. We still haven't made it to the supermarket after getting back from the MiniMoon. So there wasn't much to eat last night or this morning before the workout.

4) Motivation low. After the swim didn't go according to plan I lost some motivation. Once I saw the weather planned on being 86 degrees in the afternoon I lost some motivation. When my knee started hurting I lost more.

5) Little food box annoying me. I bought one of those little food boxes that fits just behind the stem of the bike. It didn't quite stay put and rubbed my knees while I rode. My compensating for this may have caused some of the knee pain, but I doubt it. The food storage issue is something I have to solve before IM Fla. I may opt for the pockets on the back of my jersey. Not sure.

6) I have a 17 mile run planned for tomorrow with Heather and Rusty. I'll do nine and then they'll run with me for the last eight. I didn't want to burn my knee today and then miss the run tomorrow. This is actually a valid reason to back off of the workout too. I feel I need more work on my running base than on my biking base.

So those are my excuses. Really explanations more than anything. I've ridden long through more than that before. The knee was the kicker that made me abandon the ride. I just couldn't put any power into it.
