8 Mile Outdoor Run: Garmin Forerunner 301 & Polar s625x

I wanted this to be a complete review and maybe someday it will be. But for now it's just some screenshots. Basically, I went out and ran for an hour with both the Garmin Forerunner 301 GPS unit and the Polar s625x unit. Both attempt to unite running distance and speed with heart rate. Both do a good job. I found that the Garmin loses a few hundred yards here and there when you run in neighborhoods with a lot of trees. But overall they both do a good job.

Run felt good. Embarrasingly, only my second run on the road this season. Most running to date has been on the treadmill. Silky heavenly treadmill... ah. The first jarred my joints to the point of pain. Today I could definitely feel some pain, but nothing unbearable. It was slightly windy and there are a lot of hills in the neighborhood where I ran.

(Drove to a random neighborhood. Got out. Ran. Got back into the minivan and drove home.)

Need to get more real outdoor runs in. Really stresses a lot of other smaller balance muscles. Good stuff. Painful. Had the old heart rate through the roof on a number of hills. Oomph.

Slightly energy depleted. Didn't eat much today. Should have eaten a few more carbs before I went.

My nipples are raw too.

What I need to do is scale and overlay the Garmin vs. the Polar to see where they're lining up, etc... you know... more of a scientific thing... to make me feel justified in spending 60K on a degree in physics. Yes, I know a third grader could do this. Damn kids these days and their computers.
