1Hr Swim, 80 Mile Cold Miserable Ride, Abandoned Run
It's 3AM. I'm awake and about to start my long workout for the day. I went to bed last night at 7PM, flirted with awakedness at about midnight and then fell back to sleep. I feel a little groggy but the caffeine is taking care of that for me. The minivan is packed and ready to roll. Here's the plan:
3:00am - Wake up
3:20am - Depart in vehicular form of transpo
3:55am - Arrive at Matt & Kendy's pool
4:00am - Start swimming under the stars
4:15am - Explain to police why I'm in the pool at 4am
5:00am - Finish swim
5:15am - Arrive at Silver Comet trailhead, don bike gear
5:30am - Depart on bike
7:30am - End of trail, 39 miles
8:30am - Back to mile 22 of trail, halfway point of bike
9:30am - End of trail, again
11:30am - Start of trail, again, 112 miles done
11:45am - Don running gear, depart
12:45pm - Turn around
1:45pm - Finish run, no pre-determined distance
2:00pm - Depart in minivan for home
2:30pm - Arrive home
2:45pm - Done showering
2:55pm - Done dressing, depart for Anna's Triathlon Baby Shower at Dana's
3:00pm - Arrive at Dana's
3:05pm - Beer me, ASAP
3:15pm - Buzzzzzz
3:30pm - Slurring of speech
3:45pm - I apologize for saying that about your sweater muffins
4:00pm - Asked to leave Anna's Baby Shower
4:05pm - Back home
4:15pm - Crash
I'm shifting things early because I want to make it to Anna's most excellent triathlon baby shower as produced by Divas Vanessa and Dana. I need to bring the camera to snap some momentos. Looking forward to Paul with some beer and Anna with some roundness! Later all!
Update 12:15PM: Well, that was a disaster. Swim from 4am to 5am was great. Made it out onto the bike. And froze. It was just too cold. And I was too tired. The two of them mixed made for a miserable 80 miles and then I abandoned. I just couldn't get my heart rate up. I was pedaling along at 20 mph with my heart at 98bpm and my body freezing. It was miserable. Spent an hour and a half playing blind Trail Marker Pac Man and Spider Web Collector, just hoping that I didn't guess incorrectly which shadow was the trail. By the last hour it had warmed up and I was able to kick it a bit. Heart rate up around 160bpm. I saw Keith and Dana heading out as I was heading in. They looked up-beat and ready to ride. I really shouldn't be too dissappointed with a 5hr30min workout, but I am. Probably some overtraining in there with the lack of sleep and cold. Haven't really recovered from the last four mega workouts. Need some rest.
