Run: 6 Miles Easy
I don't know what the deal is with these calves. I'm getting a little scared that they may be sore because of the new shoes. It would make sense as I haven't switched shoe models in years. But I can't distinguish between new shoe pain that'll go away after a few more miles and new shoe pain that's chronic and indicative of a bad shoe for me. Or maybe this is just me trying to get my consistency up again. Who knows. It's not terrible but does make my legs feel stiff on the run.
Took it easy and listened to No Shortcuts to the Top on audiobook. It was dark out and fairly chilly. I can feel my heart rate dropping for a given level of output.
I feel ahead of where I was last year at this time. I haven't let myself go into an all out rest-fest. I've maintained some momentum and kept the base.
Thus far the problem is that I'm not deepening the base. I keep bouncing between long runs and recovery periods. This was a problem near the end of last season. I need to go for the consistency. Shorter workouts every day.
And I need to get the darn swim going again. Haven't been swimming in way too long. Core is suffering because I do my core workout after swimming on the way out of the gym.
