40 Min Run
A very frustrating workout. I tried my benchmark 8mph for an hour treadmill run... and failed.
Last week, the day after doing the Six Gap Century, I completed the 8mph in 1 hr run. And while I did it with a higher-than-expected heart, at least I did it.
Over the course of last week I continued to focus on the run and did a number of good treadmill workouts to get the leg speed back up. By the middle and end of the week my heart rate was dropping on the runs.
Given all of this I figured that with a solid two days of rest I'd certainly nail the workout today. I didn't expect to be back in my happy 137bpm avg zone, I did expect to see maybe five bpm lower on the average than last week.
But that's what I get for applying logic. The run started out feeling great and then dramatically deteriorated. By 30 min I was solidly into the 170's and hatin' it.
At 40 min I abandoned, my workout clearly not proving my improvement. It's a bit of a kick in the groin but that's something I'm used to, being self-unemployed and all.
Why this abandonment?
I did plyometrics on Saturday. No weight vest. I assumed that my two days of recovery were valid recovery days. Maybe not. Plyos really take their toll.
And last week was truly a solid workout week. Maybe I didn't get enough recovery time.
But I'm not freaking out. Last week I was demoralized on Monday and superman on Friday. I've got a nice workout plan for the week with some solid and flexible goals. I'll stay at it and see what happens. These are hard weeks for a reason. I can't expect to absorb everything at once but of course I would like to absorb some and avoid falling into the chasm of overtraining. As I've mentioned before, this gets harder each year as I improve my process and seek to improve my times.
Positive thinking. Being tired is part of the plan right now. Positive thinking. I can dooooo eeeeeet!
