72.5 Mile Ride at Silk Sheets with Marc
Marc duct taped some aerobars onto his rig to play triathlete today. He's doing some tt's at the cycling events this year and wanted some aero time. So we hit the "flat" silk sheets via Waffle House a'la SufferFest. The plan was simple: long, slow miles. And get this... we actually stuck to that plan. No drafting all day. No crazy sprints or anaerobic crests. We allowed the terrain to dictate pace, didn't slack off too much but generally got some nice purty base miles under our belts (I have other cool stuff down there too... not sure about Marc.) Marc did fine on the bars... no sketchiness... we rode side-by-side much of the time and never felt at a loss for road. The weather was spectacular. The magical wind, less so. 72.5 miles in 4 hours at an average heart rate of 124bpm. On top of solid weeks for both of us. Marc's been a wild man on the bike mileage. And I've been sub-normal-but-not-bad on volume for the first time this year. My legs are trashed now, I'll take some swim days and rest days. Biggest reminder from today... Silk Sheets is not like silk sheets and is not flat.
