They had Carmichael, Lance's coach, on the pre-race show today. He mentioned that Lance did yesterday's time trial at an average pulse of 188 beats per minute. Wow. That's a high average for a seven minute effort. These elite athletes give us the impression that they do their feats effortlessly but in reality they hurt a ton more than we do. They train their minds and bodies to deal with incredible amounts of pain.
