Wow! What a success! Great practice swim with a great group of people.
The drive to Lake Oconee wasn't too bad. Beautiful country. Nice day out.
Arrived a little after the planned 9:00AM but nobody was keeping time. Everybody arrived about the same time.
The agenda was good in that it gave us a starting point but from there we let it go free form. We listened to each other and focused on the areas that we needed help on. I think this is the best thing about the day and a theme that we should carry to other practice events. A lot of times the teaching is one way. We made it two way... actually even more way... we learned from each other. This was good.
The buoys I bought weren't buoys. They were reclining floaty things with a sun shade. Not ideal. Tying a rock to them was tough at best but we managed. They worked and gave us a nice rest spot out in the middle of the water. I think this worked well because we could work on something, discuss it and then work on it heading back.
We did about three sessions... maybe 30 minutes each. Lots of swimming. I certainly feel a lot better about open water swimming. That said, we all agree that we need to continue the open water practice swims.
Halfway through the day we had lunch. Chris and Anna made up some excellent hot dogs and hamburgers. Vanessa and Craig brought the chips and cookies. Very good lunch indeed.
Thanks to Chris and Anna for hosting the group. The location is perfect!
