Thanks to Bill for the Long Term Focus

Spent some time on the swim today thinking about something Bill Rhoads told me a while back on a bike ride. He relayed something he read, essentially that you can't expect to race an Ironman race until you've been working on it for four years. (Or, as I interpret it, you can certainly complete and do well at an ironman but you won't begin to reach your personal im potential until your 4th year or so.) Throughout the year that thought has grown and occupied more and more time in my head. It helps me to stretch my training time scales out to the multi-year level. It allows me to not worry about today's workout or this year's race. I'm focused on 07, 08, 09, 21 etc. It's a long term thing. I can feel a big difference in my prep for this year's race (my third). Just as I felt a big difference last year as compared to the year before it. But I know that the long-term commitment is what will pay off. Thanks to Bill for the info... it's helped me out a bunch!
